Ein Textkorpus von ca. 50 Dramen wird in dieser Studie erstmalig vorgestellt. Die historischen und soziologischen Implikationen der Frage nach der Rolle der Frau im nigerianischen Theater werden eruiert. Es wird gezeigt, welche Wirkungsfaktoren des ethnischkulturellen Erbes der Igbo- bzw. Yoruba-Dramatikerinnen durch westlichen Einfluß verdrängt, aber nicht ganz eliminiert worden sind. In den Dramen werden stereotype Rollenzuweisungen, männliche Autoritätsansprüche und weibliche Abhängigkeit sowie die Veränderungen im afrikanischen Menschenbild transparent. Gleichzeitig werden aber auch geschlechtsspezifische Rollenklischees und das damit verbundene binäre Menschenbild dekonstruiert.
