"Un tablero de damas que se transforma en una auténtica partida de ajedrez" - "La casa de Bernardo Alba" es una reinterpretación de la clásica obra de teatro de Federico García Lorca. Esta versión, además de introducir cambios en el género de algunos de sus personajes, reorienta sus inclinaciones sexuales para mostrar un nuevo universo dramático encerrado entre las paredes de la casa de un autoritario padre de familia en un pueblo andaluz aún ajeno al verdadero alcance de la Guerra Civil española. Pocas palabras y diálogos diferencian esta adaptación de aquellos firmados por Lorca. Sin embargo, estos aparentemente pequeños cambios la transforman radicalmente para desvelar todo un crisol de represiones más allá de la histórica opresión de la mujer. El drama, que bajo el techo de Bernarda llega a sentirse de una pieza a través de un conjunto de mujeres sometidas bajo el mismo yugo, en esta versión, por el contrario, se vuelve polifacético, y las cadenas de los distintos personajes se entrelazan de múltiples maneras para revelar los numerosos matices de las luces y sombras de una sociedad profundamente patriarcal. Si la obra original se desarrollaba en un tablero de damas, entre el blanco y el negro, entre lo decente y lo indecente, entre la realidad del hombre y la de la mujer, la reubicación de sus personajes en "La casa de Bernardo Alba" la convierten en una auténtica partida de ajedrez.
